A native of New York City, Tom began his career with Esso Standard Oil Company in nineteen hundred sixty six (1966), at the Distribution Terminal located in Brooklyn, New York. Tom followed in the footsteps of his father and uncle, who between them had already amassed over seventy two (72) years of experience in the petroleum industry, working separately for Esso and Mobil.
During the first nine years in the Brooklyn Terminal, Tom performed all of the wage positions available at the site. In nineteen seventy-five (1975), he was promoted into a supervisory position, and again, began to gain a working knowledge of all facets of the management positions at the site. During that period, Tom was a Terminal Supervisor, Fleet Supervisor, Garage Superintendent, Office Manager, and ultimately the Terminal Manager's position. From there on, Tom began to move State to State, again amassing other operational knowledge in every facet of Terminal, Fleet, and Pipeline Operations.
In nineteen ninety(1990), Tom was transferred to Exxon's Headquarters Office in Houston, where he again worked through the various positions, which included that of a Training Coordinator, Emergency Response Coordinator, Safety and OIMS Coordinator, and finally, his present position as the Safe Work Practice Advisor for Exxon Mobil Pipeline Company.
While at Headquarters, he's developed Operating Procedures and Policies in the areas of Terminal Operation, Marine Dock Operation, Emergency Response, Work Permitting, OSHA Compliance, and Behavioral Based Safety. In the latter arena, Tom worked with the Behavioral Based Safety (BBS) Consultant to develop the training and the materials necessary to roll out the BBS Program to over nine hundred Distribution employees. He's traveled globally for ExxonMobil to perform assessments as a specialist in areas of Operations and Safety, recently completing a Safety Assessment of the Alyeska Pipeline, all Pump Stations, and its tanker terminal in Valdez.
